Peter Randall Page is a British sculptor whose work have been held in public worldwide, his works have been inspired by the study of the natural phenomena and its impact on the human emotion. Recent years, his works have became increasingly concern on the underlying principles and forms it produces. he consider that geometry is the theme that nature plays, which give it infinite variation, and can be seen as a kind of pattern book on which the most complex and sophisticated structures are based on. Peter Randall Page carves the most beautiful and regular of natural patterns on surface of grande and limestone. This create sculpture naturally sit in the landscape or placed with a wall or bank to become part of the landscape.
My favorite work of his is named “Fruit of mythological tree” in 1992. I like how the three individual pieces have conveyed a very organic feeling, and Peter Randall Page had boldly exaggerated the pattern on the skin of the fruits which make them very eye- catchy to the viewers. More importantly, Peter Randall Page had smartly make the three pieces recognizable as fruits yet not so recognizable due to the exaggeration. This gives viewers freedom to give out their own opinion based on their own interpretation.
Peter Randall Page works are related to my work thematically, as Peter Randall Page also look at the skin of the fruits, and reinterprets y exaggerating the pattern to make them look bold and obvious. I can emerge his style within my final piece.
